35% OF ACCIDENTAL HOUSE FIRES ARE
CAUSED BY ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES AND SUPPLY

Statistic taken from the Lancashire Fire & Rescue website

WELCOME

That statistic might have shocked you.  Our mission is to try to bring that figure down.  We all take for granted just how many electrical items we depend upon - rarely do we consider just how many items there are in the house or at work and yet we don't always make time to maintain it or check it...which can lead to devestating consequences.

Don't chance it - Check it!

We hope you find this website both informative and easy to use.   When you are ready to make an appointment just get in touch.  Should you not be able to find what you are looking for or wish to discuss your requirements please do not hesitate to contact us.

WHAT IS PAT?

PAT stands for Portable Appliance Testing.

It comprises of a visual inspection and in some instances a testing procedure to ensure an appliance is safe to use.  Over time appliances can become unsafe and it can easily go unnoticed, especially if cables run behind or underneath furniture.

Common occurrences that can lead to electrical fire hazards are:

  • Wires come loose inside the plug

  • Wrong fuse fitted

  • Cable grip becomes loose causing wires to be free

  • Cable grip is too tight cutting into the cable and exposing the wires

  • Overloaded extension leads

With routine maintenance checks and tests by a competent person potential hazards can be spotted and rectified before

it is too late.

WHO IS IT FOR ?

The answer to this is simply EVERYONE - Although it isn't law, everyone can benefit from ensuring their appliances are safe to use by having equipment tested.

for Safety, for Peace of Mind

It may not be law but under legislation

Businesses, Employers and Landlords have a duty of care to ensure that all electrical equipment is maintained and safe for use as documented in:

The Health & Safety At Work Act 1974

Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999

Electricity At Work Regulations 1989

Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1992

The Housing Act 2004 (England & Wales)

Often it is also a requirement by insurance companies - check the small print of your employers liability.

Portable appliance testing demonstrates that you are taking effective measures to manage the risks when it comes to electrical equipment.
